Academics
Kindergarten Program

Among the important decisions that parents make on behalf of their children is where to send them to kindergarten.  Questions to consider include: Does the school offer an academic program that my child will benefit from, and will it establish a foundation for life-long learning?  Will the school staff take the time to understand that my child is far along in some areas but behind in others?  Will the teacher appreciate the emotional ups and downs that my child will inevitably experience while being away from home for so long?  Can I trust that this school will take seriously their responsibility to teach, and if necessary, comfort my child during this most important year in his or her life?

Parents at our school have shared that the answers to these questions have been a resounding YES.  We are proud of our track record and committed to following through on our mission with each and every child.

Our Kindergarten Mission Statement reads as follows:

Let this classroom be a place…

Where God’s love and presence is always felt,
Where a love of faith and learning is fostered and encouraged,
Where joy, love and humor abound,
Where each person is treasured and their special talents recognized and encouraged,
Where each person is safe and problems are solved,
Where each person is carefully listened to,
Where we always try our hardest to learn what we can,
Where each child is encouraged to grow and excel as much as they can.

Hallmarks of our kindergarten curriculum include: hands-on learning and child-centered exploration; integration of the arts; social and faith development; and the building blocks of a solid academic foundation.

The Kindergarten program at Immaculate Conception &r Lady of Perpetual Help is strongly committed to providing a high-quality educational program, in which each child will grow and thrive. Music and physical education are provided by specialist teachers in addition to our regular classroom experience.

Kindergarten is that special time that serves as a bridge between preschool and our formal learning experiences in grade school. It is a time to catch up, to fill in missing developmental pieces, and to forge ahead into a lifetime of learning!

We employ a variety of teaching styles and are strongly committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.

We will help them start to:
• Become strong, resourceful and self reliant learners and thinkers who can clearly express themselves
• Learn strategies to focus, follow directions, think, organize, and complete an assignment and/or task in a timely manner
• Develop the necessary small motor skills and engage in beginning writing activities
• Master beginning readiness and reading skills, and support continuing growth with extra enriching and developmentally-appropriate materials
• Expand understanding of number concepts and explore math relationships through counting, identifying, expanding, and creating patterns in the real world; sorting and classifying, estimating and introduction of graphing, tally count, correctly forming and writing numbers and joining and subtracting sets
• Understand that regardless of our skin color or where we live, our basic needs are the same
• Utilize prayer, songs, art and stories from the Old and New Testament to learn how our Heavenly Father cares for and loves us through the gift of His son, Jesus
• Learn to make good choices and care for others
