Mrs. Mary Jo Burk

Mrs. Burk is an award-winning educator and has been a teacher at Immaculate Conception & Our Lady of Perpetual Help School since 1998.

She holds a Bachelors of Arts in English from the University of Washington and a Masters of Education from Lesley College.

Mrs. Burk attended Immaculate Conception School and now teaches fifth grade in what was once her first grade classroom.

"Teaching is not a job or career. For me, teaching is a calling, a vocation. Like a doctor 'practicing' medicine, a teacher is continually growing and learning, while meeting the individual needs of each student.

Look at a fourth grader compared to a sixth grader. Much growth takes place in fifth grade.    Fifth grade is a pivotal year in which students prepare for middle school and their pre-teen years. It is important to build skills and form a solid basis for future learning.

I have come full circle at this school, moving from student to teacher.  How privileged I am to be able to give back what I have received from this school community!” Mary Jo Burk
